My expieriance with Memorex Media has been very poor. In order to narrow down the issue and see if this is a hardware or software issue, I suggest you install the drive on another computer and see if it can be recognized. Does anyone know where to get the driver for this model from as I have looked everywhere and cannot find it and I cant find my support cd either to see if it is on there.

Is it some safety thing that I can change or should i buy matshlta brand. Because I need your help! As I did neither find the UJ default drivers nor a firmware update, reinstalling those was not an option for me.

Anyway its working at the moment…. Desktops Speciality level out of ten: Therefore, they do not issue firmware updates for that drive. However, the fact that you have seen a matshitx degradation of performance suggests, as EZ Jim has pointed out, that you may simply be dealing with dust.
Anyway, this should give you a measure of data DVD writing ability. This issue has plagued them from the very beggining going back before Panther. I will add a couple of side notes.
I just got a new Vista Home Premium computer, less than a month ago for personal useand it’s malfunctioning. As a result, the drive sucked in the CD again as the metal part blocked the way, so the CD stuck inside.
Basically, the drive supports almost every format you could possible want! A friend in South America that has a Aspire laptop computer, has asked me to look for a DVD burner drive that is unlocked and will play all zones. Another alternative I have is to try Acer e-recovery: It did work good for 2 days.
Therefore, since the drive maker or OEM reseller does not want to create ill will with their customers, they can reset the locking counter. Thanks and Happy New Year.

So I flashed it to D and it seems to work — only did this last night so time will tell. This is also likely the reason why the drive seems to support more than is officially recognized and why some vendors may support different options.
Like you, I have purchased a 50 spindle pack, and only got a total of 8 to work. Have not tested DVDs, speed etc lately. Notebooks are not usually big on upgrade potential.
